baking bread

This is the time of year that I pull out the bread machine
and bake bread to go along with our "Soup Sundays".

One recipe that I make fairly often . . .

Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients: (must be 70-80F/21-27 C)
9-11 ounces water
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons butter
3 3/4 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons dry milk
3/4 cup quick-cooking oats
2 tablespoons oat bran cereal
2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Cooking Directions:
Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order listed above.
Note: it is important that the salt does not touch the yeast before mixing. Note: start with 9 oz water and add more if first mixing seems a little dry.
Select basic setting, light crust and then start.

For future reference, the ingredients should be added in this order:
1. Liquid ingredients (water, eggs, milk, fat, honey)
2. Flour to “seal” in the liquid
3. Other dry ingredients (dry milk, salt, sugar, seasonings)
4. Add the yeast last.

There are so many recipes out there when you do a google search but I am looking for some tried and true recipes or just your favorite. Do you have any to share?

That looks so good and i just love the way it smells when it's cooking. I wish I had some recipes for you but so far I've only used the ones that came with the manual. I look forward to coming back to see if anyone has others. I did read that someone uses their breadmaker to knead and rise and then puts the dough in a bread pan and cooks it in the oven to look more like a loaf of bread. I think I'll try that too.

Mmmm...I love the idea of Soup Sundays and there's NOTHING like a slice of homebaked bread! The enticing aroma...
I think I have a bread machine around here that I've never used! Shame on me! I think I'll see if I can find that one day soon!
Blessings!

All the ingredients for a cozy weekend.
I'm sure you have the perfect wine ready to sip.
Enjoy!

You are making me miss my bread machine! And I can't even do Soup Sundays because my children hate soup (they don't like food mixed together---yes, that includes casseroles). I can sneak Chicken Noodle Soup into them by separating the chicken and the noodles...yes, I really do this. When everyone's in college, I am having Soup Sundays!

What a great idea! I don't bring my machine out until the cool weather either. Soup and bread...the perfect supper! Although, I love fresh baked bread SO much that I could almost do without the soup! ha.

What a beautiful, appetizing looking loaf of homemade bread. I like anything with oatmeal in it so I know I would like this. I don't make bread because my Amish neighbor does that for me at a very reasonable price. It tastes so good.
