santa

We were saddened to hear that our
friends were retiring their Santa.
Soon after, we came home to
find him in our driveway.

So . . . now he will live on our
porch for the holidays.

{thank you Tom and Sharon}

porch sit

This morning we are enjoying our
morning coffee on this porch.

We look forward to a relaxing few months after . . .
a summer of moving from a house we loved for 35 years

We also look forward to reconnecting with our Florida friends
and searching out new volunteer opportunities.

Then in the late afternoons we'll replace
our coffee with a cocktail

and soon - hoping a few
friends and family will join us for a visit
in sunny Venice, Florida . . .

The guest room is ready

hand and foot card game

On Wednesdays we play
Hand and Foot
at our Activity Center

A one dollar ante gets us
an hour and a half of fun

It is a pretty easy game and since we
draw cards to determine our partners
we have met lots of new friends.

Sometimes we play at friend's homes
with interesting themed drinks
{discovering Licor 43}

Here the (pdf)  score sheet  that we use.

sand sculptures

We recently visited the 7th Annual Siesta Key
Crystal Sand Sculpture Classic on Siesta Beach

America's #1 Beach it has become a favorite of the professional sand sculptors

.Citing the beauty and cleanliness of the pristine white sand, sculptors have remarked
that their sculptures look almost as if they were "carved in marble."

It is always fun to share our
adventures with good friends.

eternal flame falls

On our “leaf ride” this week we ventured to Chestnut Ridge Park,
about six miles from New Era Field
where our beloved Buffalo Bills play.

After lunch among the beautiful foliage we headed to
the Eternal Flame Falls trail leading to a small waterfall
located in the Shale Creek Preserve.

The hike isn't very long--only about 3/4 of a mile,
but after about halfway, it did get a bit precarious.

The trail to the Eternal Flame can be rather slippery in places,
especially once you descend into the Gorge
and begin walking in the creek bed.

A small grotto at the waterfall's base emits natural gas,
which has been lit to produce a small flame.
This flame is visible nearly year round.

The shale from which Eternal Flame Falls
draws its gas is
cooler, younger and shallower,
than typical gas-bearing shale.

It was an adventurous hike
through a peaceful forest
with beautiful views
to reach the
“flame behind the waterfall”

visitors

March will bring us friends from the north

This will be a welcome respite for us
after a weighty winter

Looking forward to an enjoyable few weeks
