matching masks

Remember when kids and parents wore matching shirts?
Now they wear matching masks.
So sad . . . .

fabric scraps

Seriously?
I bought this little pillow at the Rec Center
to put behind my back in the car. It was a bit too full so
I needed to remove some stuffing.
Look what was inside!

Who stuffs a pillow with fabric scrapes?

a tisket, a tasket, a taller basket

Thanks for your suggestions
on filling my cute little bags
I changed their shape a bit and
now know what to put in them!

a tisket, a tasket

I made these baskets today and they are so cute but . . .
I can’t think of what anyone would use them for.
Before I make more I need some ideas.
What would you put in yours?

crisscross credit card wallet

I have had fun making
CrissCross Credit Card Wallets
by Gena Cunha at Craftsy

You can download the free pattern from the link listed below.

I did make two changes.
I only put the fusible interfacing on the
cover and the four squares
not on the other inner pieces.

I added the first snap (female) to the cover before sewing any pieces together.
{I also put the snap in backwards one time so be careful}

I was able to make four wallets from two fat quarter pieces.

Hint: The cover and inside pieces are about 1/8" larger than 4 1/2 ".
That makes a difference when fitting in the credit cards.
I made one at just 4 1/2 and it was a too tight.

The free pdf pattern can be downloaded here:

apron shirts

While visiting the kids in British Columbia
I came across a fun sewing project at their local farmer's market.

They are aprons made from thrift store shirts.

I made several for our little ones.

Mine are made from men's small dress shirts
 but a child's large may be better {shorter}

It was fun playing with sleeve pockets
and transferring labels to the front.

You may find the directions on this blog helpful
if you want to try making some

Here are two photos from Liz's blog showing cutting instructions

folded fabric ornament

Here is a fun "sew and fold" fabric Christmas ornament
that turned out to be pretty easy.

These will make great little hostess gifts or party favors.

One challenge I had was finding a hanging string.
I ended up using Hemp Cord from the jewelry section.

The second challenge was finding affordable buttons.
I am still looking for some gold ones . . .

I used a 7" plastic plate as the template.

For the ones above I used red and green quilting fabric
and now I have some Christmas fabric for the rest.

Stitch two contrasting colored circles together
right sides facing leaving a small opening.

Turn them right side out

Top stitch and you are ready to fold

Draw up the centers and stitch together

Fold each corner over the edge

Here is a YouTube video with the instructions.
