baby quilt

I have been visiting a quilting club during our visit in Florida. This lovely group of ladies has helped me make my first quilt. Not perfect this time but I have learned a few tricks along the way and am ready to try the next one.

arranging the squares/blocks

adding the sashing and a border

a colorful backing

a sunny place to sew

finished and ready to go

I am thinking maybe a Christmas gift . . .
since our grandson will be back from Cambodia by December.
He certainly wouldn't need it there where they have just two seasons
"hot and hotter"

{For those of you that I have made market bags for,
you may see scraps from your fabric in this quilt}

  1. Your quilt is so pretty, Mary! I think I've been inspired. I'm going to read up on how to do that!

  4. It's a lovely quilt. I have a feeling the first of many. My mom loves making baby quilts, and they are so useful, even in warmer climates. You can throw them on the floor and let the baby play on them, or for older kids, wrap them up in it while watching a movie or reading to them.

  6. Good for you! It looks wonderful!!! Rail Fence was my very first quilt too. I had visited a quilt guild with a friend, and won a raffle of fabric. I went back and learned to do the Rail Fence block, like yours, and made my very first crib sized quilt. I hand quilted it, and loved every aspect of doing this!!! I was hooked!!!
    You will be too!!

  16. OK, I'm jealous!
    Your header is wonderful.
The "sunny place" to sew is beautiful.
    And the quilt is perfect.
Are you sure you can wait until Christmas?

Sounds like you have enjoyed your time away, very much.

  17. That came out really nice, good for you, now you can go on to make any number of things. I can make the quilt part, just never learned how to put a binding on.
I fixed my blog, thanks for letting me know.
