Many of my friends are beginning to turn 60 and in 5 months I will join them. I do have mixed feelings about it but my life is pretty happy right now so I am not fearful.
Just recently I looked in the mirror and noticed new wrinkles on my face - cheek wrinkles! I have many other wrinkles but somehow these just cry out old.
And to make it worse . . .
We have been trying to eat healthier lately and I have lost 5 pounds. I ran into a friend yesterday who said, "You must be losing weight girl, I can see it in your face." I just know she was talking about my cheek wrinkles. Argh!
Oh man, I know just how you feel. It seems I find something new every morning when I look in the mirror.
ReplyDeleteIt's better than the alternative. (And by the alternative I don't mean Botox or plastic surgery, although I guess those are also alternatives.)
ReplyDeleteYou and I are in the very same boat. I always think of something that Sophia Loren is supposed to have said about weight and age, that the choice you have to make 'is either your hips or your face.'
ReplyDeleteThanks Sophia!
Congratulations and the 5 lbs.!
ReplyDeleteSixty is around the "corner of my life", also.
Wrinkles are one problem but what about the aches and pains? Every morning I seem to find a new one.
I think you look beautiful! I will be turning 50 in about 4 months. I am feeling a little melancholy about this birthday. I am thankful for good health and I have noticed some new wrinkles myself!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! I'm nearing the big 6-0 too. I tell my friends, "I am elderly." Can't hear, can't see, can't remember, and can barely walk - right?!?! One reason I'm afraid to lose weight (tho I desperately want to) is that it might reveal more sagging wrinkles. Sigh. Can we talk Botox ...

I've got quite a few years before 60, but girl I've had cheek wrinkles for several years already. Ugh! If my husband wouldn't hit the roof, I would seriously consider a little touch-up work. Nothing major, just a nip here and a tuck there. Everytime I mention it, The Man gives me that look. (sigh)
ReplyDeleteMy mother, who is 79, used to always say she wanted to die while she was young and beautiful. I get where she was coming from. :)
lol I know just what you mean but no worries...we just get better and better every added year. I turned 65 this year and I rejoice in it!
ReplyDeleteLOL I am 60 too...but thats ok, I just look at the beautiful old ladies around me and I don't even see their wrinkles! (Maybe my eyes are going too!) ;D
ReplyDeleteIf the cheek wrinkles make your face looks thinner, they can't be all bad! :) plus, we will always think you are the most beautiful mom in the world!
ReplyDeletewell, I think you look great! And 5 pounds? Wonderful! I'm joining the 50's club in September and I have mixed feelings. ha.
ReplyDeleteI love that big picture of you and your husband! Congrats on the 5 lbs! I lost some weight a couple of years ago, and when I look at pictures I can see more wrinkles. I wouldn't worry too much about it...I think you look great!
ReplyDeleteI always associate "cheek wrinkles" with smiley faces.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this post has made me study my own face yet again in my 10X magnifying mirror. Gooooood grief.
No worries! Turning 60 is not a bad thing, especially if it’s going to push you to eat healthier. Don’t you want to live longer and enjoy every second with your family? Those wrinkles shouldn’t stress you out, dear. You can use a facial cream to help reduce those fine lines, anyway.
